About the course of life, survival, and human ” speaks” the South Korean drama series “The Squid Game” by director-screenwriter Hwang Dong-hyuk, which airs on Netflix from September 17, 2021, and is already constitutes a phenomenon. Also, is a great example of how a quality TV series can “touch” a lot of people.
It is a “diamond”
Together with the “Locked up” series of the same digital platform, they are two “diamonds” of cinematic art that will shine for a long time!
The script
Hwang Dong-hyuk’s script was based on favorite games, which have different names in each country and which we all played when we were children. Masterfully, the screenwriter turns them into “death traps” for the 456 participants, who – who are in socio-economic impasses.
Human elegy
Hwang Dong-hyuk was based on the logic of television realities and “built” an “elegy” for the human emotions, kindness, psychological state of Homo Sapiens, “cauterizing” at the same time and masterfully revealing the structure of the dominant economic model.
The one-way direction
The scene with the stairs in the pink setting directly refers to the flow of life, which goes everywhere in a time direction, which is none other than that of death. With the coffins of the dead players reminiscent of “gift boxes», which in the scenes of the ovens refer directly to the memory of the dead from crematoria of World War II, and the Holocaust.
The VIPs
VIPs (wonderful symbolism) are the people with a lot of money, and they see everything behind the masks and look at people like pawns, who have to be sacrificed. They do not care about anything but pleasure and well-being. Nor can they mentally feel why someone wants to give up the money of the game, as long as their friends are saved.
Nemesis
On the other hand, as is the case in society, there are those who “tread on corpses for survive”, but even for them Nemesis sometimes lurks through the unexpected behavior of the mistress. Nevertheless, the same people are seized by guilt and “led” to commit suicide. The truly good will be deceived. At the same time, the good person will “roll” his tear because of the betrayal and will be “led” to the sheep in the slaughter” or will be” trampled” by the wicked, in order for them to escape.
The imperfection of uniqueness
There are no perfect people but choosing the path of good or evil is what makes them “to was led” in different paths.

There is no perfect system anywhere
The masked figure represents those who quickly dream of “clean worlds” and think that they are “building” a perfect society of equality opportunities, but their theory is based on the circumvention of the rights of every human being, because they simply “provide” only one choice to people: The choice, which they think is right for all, but leads in the big tragedy of humanity.
In all this, the grandfather with dementia stands there and enjoys every game like a child, but the mirror hides the reflections.
The key question
The key question posed by screenwriter Hwang Dong-hyuk and which gives all of us the opportunity to answer it, is: Do you trust people and how much?
Two bright stars
However, we will focus on two of them, the actor Lee Jung-Jae, who plays the main character, Seong Gi-hun, and in the actress-model, Jung Hoyeon, who plays Kang Sae-byeok.
Lee Jung-Jae, gives a “real recital” of acting, amazingly conveying the feeling of the person, who “wakes up” from the “lethargy” of addiction and really cares for everyone. Jung Hoyeon in her acting debut manages with her inner depth and her enigmatic look to demonstrate the excesses that many people make to save those they love.
The epic of every human being
The TV serial “The Squid Game” does not provide us with the solution to all the impasses of humanity, nor does it deify money. He simply tells us: Every human has carried out his own epic, which is worth remembering and recording because every human has taken one surname and not a number. It should not end up in a coffin in the style of a gift box and it should not become one distant ashes-soot.
As a story, urges us to paraphrase the saying of Diogenes: ” And in the most unlikely places to look for these people, who radiate light, good and hope.” Will, we find these people? That’s a big question for humanity..
