The magic of self-confidence
Once upon a time, there was a businessman who went into debt and could not find a way out. Creditors approached him. Suppliers demanded payment. He sat on a bench in the park, breaking his head to find something that could save his company from bankruptcy.
Suddenly, an old man appeared in front of him. “I see something is bothering you,” he said. After hearing the man’s problems, the old man said, “I think I can help you.” He asked the man his name, wrote a check, and pushed it into his hand, saying, “Take that money. Meet me here exactly one year from now to give it back to me. “Then, he came back and disappeared as fast as he had come.
The businessman saw in his hand a $100,000 check, signed by Andrew Carnegie, one of the richest men in the world at the time!
“I can write off my debts in an instant!” realized. Instead, he decided to put the check in his safe. Just knowing it was there, it gave him the strength to find a way to save his business.
With renewed hope, he made better deals and negotiated extended payment terms. He made many big deals. Within a few months, he had repaid his debt and made money again.
Exactly one year later, the man, consistent with his promise, returned to the park with the $ 100,000 check. At the same time, the old man appeared. But as the businessman was preparing to return the check and share his success story with him, a nurse came and grabbed the old man.
“Fortunately, I caught him!” she said. “He always leaves the house and tells people he’s Andrew Carnegie.”
The man was stunned. All year long he traded, bought and sold, convinced that he had a $ 100,000 check aside.
Suddenly, he realized it was not the money, real or imaginary, that brought his life back. It was the confidence that the old man inspired him and gave him the strength to succeed.
