An ARTist a month – December 2019 «Hazal Karababa»
An ARTist a month! – Το πρόσωπο του μήνα Δεκεμβρίου 2019
«I can’t depend on only one thing.
I can’t restrict myself Ι have to always open to everything!
I can’t restrict my imagination!» – Hazal Karababa
Ulysses: I will invite you to say a few words about yourself and what you would like us to know about you.
H.K.: «I really do love creating things and making them. Now I’m attending cinema studies and I use my creations in films like special effects, make-ups, costumes, sculptures. I want to be an art director and I’m interested in fantasy, special effects so I’m doing the things that I love in my own way. I shouldn’t omit to tell you that I won a Turkish 1st Art Award».
Ulysses: During your engagement with your occupation, do you find it hard to work with Arts?
HK.: « Actually sometimes it was hard because of the daily life hours. But Art is making me relaxed and comfortable, it’s like a safe-zone for me that keeps me alive!».
Ulysses: What is the motivation for you?
H.K.: «The motivation is when I feel sad, lonely or happy Art is relaxing me. The fact that I have my mother’s support makes me feel confident on every of my projects. No matter what, she will always stand by me!».
Ulysses: What are you up to nowadays? Any new projects?
H.K.: «I’m up to a script right now. I’m trying to write and then shoot a dystopia movie to help people understand about children abuse».
Ulysses: What are your feelings during creating? Do you remember a special one?
H.K.: «Of course! For example, right now, I feel dizzy and scared that I can’t handle this script because I’m always thinking of changing the scenario. Sometimes I feel bad but I know I trust myself that I can manage this if I really want to do it. İt’s in my hands!».
Ulysses: Is Art a hobby or a career for you?
H.K.: « Actually it’s both! It started as a hobby. Then during high school, I decided to turn my hobby into a career decision. The reason for that is that I wanted my job to be the one that makes me feel complete with what I do».
Ulysses: Most artists are thought to appeal to the young audience. What is your contribution? How does the world respond to your work?
H.K.: «The world didn’t respond to me yet! They like my work, they honoured me but it’s not enough for me. I want my movies to change their perspectives. I want them to feel my emotions through Art».
Ulysses: Can your skills be related to social work?
H.K.: «Actually I consider myself as an activist so even I’ve never thought of this, I am pretty sure it can be connected».
Ulysses: As a personality what have you gained so far and what do you think you will continue to gain from your path?
H.K.: «Surely I have gained so many emotions! Love, support and developing of my skills. This changed my perspectives so as to stop thinking of me and start taking care of the others!».
Ulysses: Do you remember a very adverse event or a difficult time throughout your career?
H.K.: «Well, I would say right now! My scenario has to be ready in 2 days but although the idea is good there are too many difficulties».
Ulysses: What are your goals? Have they always been the same since you were a child?
H.K.: «Actually I have always known that I would use Art in movies. From an early age I set my goals on directing. Although I am aware of the struggles, I really love this job even the hardest parts of it! Someday I will write my own scenario and shoot my film!».
Ulysses: You travel very often. Tell us a few words about the experiences of travel and how you perceive the multiculturalism society.
H.K.: «It is true that filming includes a lot of travelling. When I’m outside of the country I fell in love with all these different countries and cultures I meet. Furthermore, I love getting to know new people since I’m a friendly person. When I met new people I get inspired by their outlook, emotions, clothes, manners and try to use these elements in my Artistic activity. My mind is always prepared and open. My imagination always works!».
Ulysses: And your motto is:
H.K.: «I can’t depend on only one thing. I can’t restrict myself, I always have to be open to everything! I can’t restrict my imagination!»
